I'm learning Python and want to move toward making games, but game development feels difficult and I'm worried it will take too long before I can build something on my own. Should I continue with Python, or learn another language such as C#, C++, or C? I'm also interested in possibly making Discord bots.

There isn’t a fixed language progression where Python is followed by one specific language. If you want to use a game engine, choose the engine first and learn its preferred language. C# with Unity is generally more approachable, while C++ is common with Unreal Engine and gives you more exposure to lower-level programming.
If your goal is to understand how computers and software work at a lower level, C is a good next step. It’s smaller and more focused than C++, though it won’t immediately make game development easier. Other reasonable choices include Rust, Java, Go, or C#, depending on the projects you want to build.
Python can be used for games and Discord bots, and its performance usually isn’t a problem for small projects or learning. You may eventually choose C# or C++ for a larger or more demanding game, but trying to switch languages before completing anything could slow you down. Make a simple game now, then learn whatever your next project requires.
You don’t need to wait until you learn another language. Start with Python and a library such as Pygame, then build very small projects like Snake, Pong, or Tetris. You’ll learn faster by making something and will have a better idea of what limitations you actually need to solve later.

I’m already fairly comfortable with Python, including file handling and many libraries. I mainly want to make games and Discord bots, so I’m trying to figure out which direction would be most useful next.
