I bought my gaming PC a couple of years ago and would rather upgrade it than move to the next generation of consoles. I'm especially interested in getting Crimson Desert running more smoothly. My current system has a Ryzen 7 7700, Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB, 32GB of DDR5 memory, and a 1440p 144Hz monitor. I'd eventually like to move to a 4K OLED display, but I'm unsure whether I should upgrade the PC first or focus on tuning my current setup. In Crimson Desert, I'm seeing noticeable frame-time stutters and a somewhat hazy image, although I haven't fully revisited the settings since returning to the game. What would be the best upgrade path, and are there settings I should try before buying new hardware?

Your current system should be capable of running the game well at 1440p, so I’d investigate the stuttering and hazy image before upgrading anything. Check whether resolution scaling, upscaling, motion blur, frame generation, and shader compilation settings are affecting the image. Also make sure your graphics drivers and chipset drivers are current, and watch GPU usage, CPU usage, temperatures, and VRAM while playing. If the GPU is consistently maxed out, lower the demanding options such as shadows, volumetric effects, and global illumination.
You can experiment with 4K output on your current card, especially with sensible settings or an upscaler, but smooth high-refresh 4K will be demanding in newer games. For now, target a stable frame rate at 1440p rather than trying to match every maximum-quality showcase. If the game remains GPU-limited after tuning, upgrade the GPU first; the rest of your build doesn’t need attention yet.
If your main goal is a future 4K OLED setup, the graphics card should be your first major upgrade. A faster GPU will make a much bigger difference at 4K than replacing the Ryzen 7 7700 or adding more RAM. Your 32GB of memory and CPU are still a strong pairing for gaming. An RX 9070 XT would be the natural step up if you want to stay with AMD, though it may be worth waiting until you actually choose the monitor so you can match the card to its refresh rate and features.

That makes sense. I’m probably getting caught up comparing my experience with highly optimized 4K videos. I’ll spend more time checking the settings and performance metrics before deciding on a GPU.
