What’s a reliable alternative to Verizon One Talk for business phone service?

Our company currently uses Verizon One Talk, but we've had serious reliability issues. We suspected some incoming calls were never reaching us, and a new commercial client confirmed it by reporting that calls to our number sometimes click off without ringing any of our phones. We need to replace the system quickly, especially because we now need dependable overnight call coverage. What business phone systems have worked well for you?

We use 3CX and it’s been solid overall. It’s worth considering if you want more control over the setup and call routing.

We deploy 3CX for customers as well, and the results have generally been very good.

Votacall has been very reliable in my experience. They generally manage and maintain their own equipment, which helped keep the service stable. Availability may depend on your region, but it’s worth checking if they serve your area. Verticomm is another provider I’ve used for nearly two years without any unresolved issues; the only minor problem was that some cordless Yealink phones didn’t have a call-indicator light, while the desktop models did.

Google Voice for Google Workspace may be a good fit if you want something simple. With compatible phones, it supports ring groups, forwarding, business hours, and other basic call-routing features. We moved away from ShoreTel and evaluated several providers; Voice made the most sense for our relatively straightforward setup.

It’s especially appealing when you don’t need a complicated contact-center setup and want something easy to administer.

Dialpad has been excellent for us. Both our staff and the people calling us have had a good experience with it, and it’s been much more dependable than our previous system.

The best option depends on your requirements, since the question leaves out details like user count, desk phones, mobile apps, routing, and integrations. Broadly speaking, I’d look at Microsoft Teams Phone, YoVo, or VoIP.ms. Teams is a perfectly workable choice if your company already uses Microsoft 365.

Agreed—Teams has worked fine for our needs, especially since we were already using the Microsoft ecosystem.
