I'm a third-year Software Engineering student and work mainly as a backend-focused web developer. For my graduation project, I'd like to build something more ambitious than a standard CRUD application—possibly a useful startup concept or SaaS product that solves a real problem and makes a strong impression during evaluation. What project ideas would be worth exploring, and what should I focus on to make the result meaningful and convincing?

Don’t optimize for making evaluators say “that looks fancy.” Build something that would make a real user say, “This would save me an hour every day.” Talk to a few potential users, identify a repetitive or frustrating workflow, then create a focused solution with a clear measurable benefit. The problem definition and presentation often matter as much as the code.
Choose a problem you genuinely care about instead of chasing something that only sounds impressive. A focused tool for a real local issue can be stronger than a huge, complicated platform. For example, a service that tracks public transportation delays could demonstrate authentication, data collection, notifications, analytics, and a useful user experience. If you build it as a SaaS, be ready to explain exactly who needs it and why.
A good direction could be a multi-tenant SaaS with a solid backend: role-based access, subscription or usage limits, background jobs, audit logs, notifications, reporting, and an API. Possible domains include appointment management, inventory forecasting, campus services, local logistics, or workflow automation. Keep the first version narrow enough to finish, but design the architecture so you can demonstrate how it would scale.
