I currently have a Ryzen 7 5800X, 32GB of 3133MHz RAM, and a Radeon RX 9060 XT. I mainly play League of Legends, with some CS2, but I struggle to maintain a constant 240 FPS. I'm considering a CPU upgrade, but my current motherboard's strongest option appears to be the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. I'm unsure whether it offers enough of an improvement to justify the price. Moving to a newer platform would also require replacing my RAM, while switching to Intel would mean replacing the motherboard and learning more about their current CPU options. My budget is around €550 for the CPU and motherboard, with some flexibility up to €600. What upgrade would make the most sense?

A 5800X3D should be a noticeable improvement in games that are limited by CPU performance, particularly when aiming for very high and consistent frame rates. League of Legends benchmarks can be difficult to find, but the extra cache generally helps in esports titles. If the 5800X3D is overpriced, compare the total cost of a newer CPU, motherboard, and DDR5 memory before deciding.
Before replacing the CPU, check the basics. Your memory is running at 3133MHz, so make sure its rated profile is enabled and see whether 3200 or 3600MHz is stable. Update the motherboard BIOS and AMD chipset drivers as well. You could also experiment with a more aggressive Precision Boost Overdrive setup on the 5800X. Those changes may improve frame-time consistency without spending your entire budget.
I’d avoid moving to the older Intel socket for this upgrade. Your realistic choices are either finding a reasonably priced 5800X3D or selling your current parts and moving to a newer platform. The 5800X3D is the fastest gaming processor available for your current motherboard and can be a worthwhile way to extend the system’s life, especially for CPU-heavy games.
A lower-tier X3D chip can also outperform the regular 5800X in some games because of its extra cache, but availability and pricing vary a lot. I’d only choose one if it’s substantially cheaper than a 5800X3D and comes from a reliable seller. Otherwise, keep the current platform and save toward a full newer-platform upgrade.
