My previous Radeon RX 7600 appears to have failed, so I'm looking for a replacement GPU for my existing PC. It has a Ryzen 7 9700X, 32GB of Corsair RAM, and a B650 motherboard. I'm trying to spend under $400 for a used card or around $500 for a new one, although cheaper is preferred. I'm located in Missouri and live near a Micro Center. I mainly play at 1080p with high frame rates in games like Rainbow Six Siege and Rocket League. I'm currently considering a used RTX 3080 Founders Edition or a new Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB, but I'm open to other good-value options available through local marketplaces.

The RTX 3080 is generally the faster option if you only care about immediate performance, especially if you find one in good condition for under $400. The RX 9060 XT 16GB is newer, uses less power, and gives you more VRAM, which could make it a better long-term choice. Since you mainly play competitive games at 1080p, either card should be more than enough, so condition, price, and warranty matter a lot.
It’s worth checking local listings for an RTX 4070. Some are selling for around $400, and that would give you strong performance, much better efficiency than a 3080, and useful features like DLSS. Missouri listings may be less common, but it’s definitely worth looking for before buying.
Would a used RTX 4070 be a better deal than a new RX 9060 XT? I was thinking the newer card might be the safer long-term option because of its age and 16GB of VRAM.
For your budget, compare the local prices of an RTX 4070, RTX 3080, RX 9060 XT 16GB, and possibly an RX 7800 XT. At 1080p, all of them should deliver very high frame rates with your 9700X, so you don’t need to overspend. I’d prioritize a card with a clean history, reasonable temperatures, and some kind of return protection over a small difference in benchmark performance.
I already have the 9700X. I got it with 32GB of RAM and a B650 motherboard for $400 total, so I thought it was a pretty good deal. The computer is already built; I’m just replacing the GPU.
