I'm looking for a controller with a gyroscope so I can try gyro aiming in PC games. I currently use an Xbox controller and am considering a PlayStation 5 DualSense, but I'm open to other options. The main priorities are reliable gyro support and broad game compatibility. I play on Linux about 90% of the time, mostly through Steam and Heroic. I don't usually play competitive shooters such as Call of Duty, Battlefield, or Valorant; I'm more interested in using gyro aiming in games like Cyberpunk 2077, Mass Effect, Tomb Raider, and Red Dead Redemption. The upcoming Steam Controller isn't a practical option for me because it won't be available until at least 2027.

The DualSense is likely the best value for your situation because it’s relatively easy to set up and has broad controller support. Steam Input can map the gyro to mouse movement or other controls, which should work nicely for third-person games. Compatibility outside Steam may take more manual setup, so Heroic games could require some experimentation.
I’d look for a used DualSense in good condition, especially one without stick drift. It should handle what you want while costing less than trying to find an older Steam Controller. Just test the sticks and make sure the controller connects reliably before buying.
A regular DualSense is probably the simplest choice right now. It has a gyro, works well with Steam Input, and should be usable on Linux with the right configuration. You don’t need the more expensive Edge model for gyro aiming.
Older Steam Controllers are still an option if you find one at a reasonable price, but availability varies and used prices can be unreasonable. I wouldn’t pay several times the original price for one when a DualSense can provide gyro functionality without that premium.

That’s the main thing I’d keep in mind: games launched through Steam are usually easier to configure, while non-Steam titles may need extra controller mapping or a compatibility layer.
