The Ryzen 7 5800X3D isn't available where I live, and expensive DDR5 memory means I want to stay with a DDR4-based system. Which Intel processor would be the closest gaming alternative, ideally with support for DDR4 and reasonable power consumption?

There isn’t a perfect Intel match for the 5800X3D. Its large 3D-stacked cache gives it specific advantages in some games, and no DDR4-compatible Intel chip has the same cache design. Still, the 13600K/KF and 14600K/KF are generally competitive in gaming and much faster for many productivity tasks.

The goal doesn’t have to be an identical Intel version of the 5800X3D—just the closest practical alternative. In that case, the 14600K or 14600KF is a reasonable recommendation.

Cache isn’t everything. Depending on the game and settings, the 13600K or 14600KF can match or outperform the 5800X3D, so benchmark results and local pricing matter more than cache capacity alone.

The Core i5-14600KF is probably the closest fit. It works with either DDR4 or DDR5 depending on the motherboard, performs very well in games, and is generally fairly efficient during normal gaming. It can draw considerably more power if you remove limits or push heavy workloads, though.

Consider the Core i7-14700K if you also do demanding productivity work, but it’s usually more CPU than you need strictly for gaming. The 14600K/KF is likely the better value, especially if you’re buying a DDR4 motherboard and memory at the same time.

The Core i5-14600K is another strong choice if you want integrated graphics. It offers the same DDR4/DDR5 platform flexibility and is a good all-around gaming CPU. The Core i5-13600K or 13600KF can also make sense if it’s significantly cheaper.
