Our team currently logs into each Linux device over SSH and performs deployments manually, which takes a lot of time. What tools or deployment patterns would you recommend for automating updates across a fleet of devices?

Ansible is a straightforward option, especially if the devices already support SSH and have Python installed. You can define the deployment steps once and run them across the whole fleet instead of connecting to every device manually.
The best setup depends on what these machines are. For IoT or other embedded devices, a proper update agent and deployment pipeline is usually better than repeatedly pushing changes over SSH. For ordinary endpoints, tools such as Puppet, Salt, or Ansible can handle configuration and software updates. A CI pipeline could build a release or container image and then roll it out gradually, but network access and VPN requirements may make the architecture more complicated.
Ansible can also run in pull mode, where each device periodically retrieves and applies its configuration or update. That can work well when the devices aren’t reliably reachable from a central control server.
