What’s the best way to create a polished HTML report in Python?

I'm moving from R to Python and looking for something similar to R Markdown or knitted reports. I'd like to generate clean, polished HTML reports with tables, tabs, flexible formatting, and the ability to customize the layout and styling. What tools or workflows work well for this?

Jinja2 is another solid choice for report generation. You can create an HTML template with placeholders, render it with Python data, and keep the structure and styling separate from the analysis code. It’s especially useful for custom layouts or repeatable reports.

Quarto is probably the closest match to R Markdown. It works well with Python notebooks and scripts, supports HTML output, tables, tabs, custom formatting, and reusable document layouts. It’s a strong choice if you want the familiar analysis-to-report workflow from R.

Quarto combined with Positron has worked especially well for me because it brings together a lot of the conveniences people like from both R and Python.

Tabs, flexible formatting, and being able to customize the surrounding layout are exactly what I’m looking for.

For a more programmatic approach, you can build the HTML with Python libraries such as Dominate and insert DataFrame output using pandas’ to_html() method. Pandas Styler is also useful when you want more polished tables, custom formatting, and CSS styling.

Pandas Styler is a good option when the main goal is making the generated tables look clean and presentable.
