I need to remotely access a Windows laptop that's located in another country. A relative will be physically near the laptop and can turn it on, install the necessary software, and approve any setup steps. Both computers are running Windows. Chrome Remote Desktop is easy to set up and works across separate networks. It’s a solid choice if you want regular access without configuring port forwarding on the router.
Windows Remote Desktop can be used, but it’s less convenient for this situation. The remote computer generally needs a Pro, Enterprise, or Education edition, and connecting over the internet may require VPN or router configuration. A dedicated remote-access app is usually easier.
TeamViewer is probably the simplest option for this. Your relative can install it, give you the connection details, and you can help configure unattended access if needed. Make sure to use a strong password and only allow trusted devices.
Windows Quick Assist is another good choice, especially if someone is sitting at the other laptop and can approve the connection each time. It’s built into current Windows versions, so there’s usually nothing extra to install.
