I'm fairly new to using a two-PC setup at home and recently discovered software KVM tools that let one keyboard and mouse control both machines. I'd like to switch between the computers using a physical button, keyboard shortcut, or possibly a Stream Deck action. What software or hardware would work well for this?

A hardware KVM is usually the simplest option. Many models let you switch with a keyboard combination, such as pressing a key twice quickly, and some include a physical button. Check the specifications or manual for the exact switching method.
You could also use a USB sharing switch: plug your keyboard and mouse into the switch, connect it to both computers, and press the button to move the devices between them. It avoids network latency and doesn’t require one computer to stay powered as the main host. The downside is needing room for another device and dealing with shipping or import costs.

That sounds appealing, but desk space is extremely limited. My gaming and streaming setup is in a tiny walk-in closet, so I’m trying to avoid adding another box unless it’s very small.
