I'm putting together a new PC within the next couple of months and want to get the best prices possible. Major shopping events like Prime Day and Black Friday are coming up, but I'm unsure whether PC components actually receive meaningful discounts during those sales. In the past, I've seen products marked as "on sale" for the same price—or even more—than usual. Should I wait for a specific event, buy parts as I find good deals, or purchase everything closer to the build date?

There usually isn’t one universally best time to buy PC parts. If you find a genuinely good price on a component you need, buy it, but don’t assume Prime Day or Black Friday will produce huge discounts on CPUs, GPUs, memory, or other core parts. Those events tend to be more useful for peripherals, monitors, storage, cases, and accessories.
Watch prices now and set alerts for the parts you want. GPUs and RAM can take up a large portion of the budget, so those are worth monitoring closely, but don’t wait indefinitely for a perfect deal. A small discount may not be worth delaying the whole build or risking stock disappearing.
You can sometimes find good prices on used GPUs or occasional deals at local computer and warehouse stores, provided the seller is reputable and the return policy is clear. Prebuilt systems can also be surprisingly competitive, especially when graphics cards are expensive, so it’s worth comparing the total cost before buying individual parts.
Since your build is only two months away, I’d avoid buying every part too early. Components can arrive defective, and waiting makes it harder to return or exchange them. At minimum, buy the CPU, motherboard, and RAM close enough together that you can test them during the return window.
That’s my biggest concern with piecemeal purchases too. It’s frustrating to discover a dead motherboard or memory kit after the return period has expired.

A sale is worth considering if you’ve tracked the price and know it’s actually lower than normal. The event name alone doesn’t guarantee a bargain.
