Where can I find affordable laptop RAM for a 24GB or 32GB upgrade?

I'm trying to upgrade my laptop from 16GB of RAM to either 24GB or 32GB, but current memory prices are much higher than I expected. In some cases, buying a new computer almost seems more reasonable. Are there any reliable websites or stores where I can find laptop-compatible SO-DIMM RAM at a better price?

There probably isn’t one secret store with dramatically lower prices. Most retailers are within about $10–$15 of one another, and unusually cheap listings tend to sell quickly. Comparing several sites and checking used listings is usually more effective.

You could check local second-hand electronics or game stores as well. Some have surprisingly low prices on computer components, including storage and memory. Online marketplaces such as AliExpress may also have deals, but quality and seller reliability can vary, so check reviews carefully.

Used pricing can be significantly better, especially for DDR4. For example, an 8GB DDR4 laptop stick might be around $35 used compared with roughly $120 new. DDR5 is still expensive, but used 16GB modules can sometimes be found for around $80–$90, while new ones may cost well over $200.

Used laptop memory is usually the best value. SO-DIMM modules have fairly low demand, so you can often find compatible sticks for much less than new ones. Just verify the generation, speed, capacity, and whether your laptop supports the module before buying.

Make sure the listing specifically says SO-DIMM, since regular desktop DIMMs won’t fit in a laptop.
