I installed an IdeaPad 4-port PCIe-to-USB 3.0 expansion card in my desktop some time ago. After recently factory-resetting the PC, I no longer have the driver disc that came with it and I'm having trouble finding the correct drivers online. Where should I look, and is there a way to identify the required driver if the card's product page doesn't provide one?

The card may use a common USB 3.0 controller such as a Renesas, VIA, or Fresco Logic chip. Rather than relying on a generic driver-updater utility, identify the controller in Device Manager and download the driver from the chip manufacturer or the card maker’s support page. Driver-updater programs can install the wrong software and sometimes include unwanted extras.
This type of expansion card often works with drivers already included in Windows, especially on newer versions. Check whether the USB ports actually work first. If they don’t, open Device Manager and look under “Universal Serial Bus controllers” or “Other devices” for an entry with a warning icon. Open its Properties, go to Details, select Hardware Ids, and use the VEN and DEV values to identify the controller and find the correct driver.
