Which CR2032 Battery Should I Buy for My Motherboard?

A dead CMOS battery normally causes things like the system clock resetting or BIOS settings being lost. It usually won’t stop a modern PC from reaching the BIOS or booting entirely, so the startup problem may have another cause.

You can use a common brand such as Energizer, Duracell, Panasonic, or a decent store brand. Before replacing it, check the motherboard’s diagnostic lights or error display and describe exactly what happens when you press the power button. That will provide more useful clues than the battery brand.

For a CR2032 motherboard battery, the brand usually doesn’t matter much. Any fresh battery from a reputable or well-reviewed brand should work, and even an inexpensive one is generally fine. Just make sure it’s the correct CR2032 type and installed with the positive side facing the right direction.
