Which DDR5 kit makes the most sense for a high-end Intel gaming and editing PC?

I'm building a high-end gaming PC around an Intel Z890 platform, likely with a Core Ultra 7 270K Plus, and I'm comparing three new memory kits: Acer Predator Hera RGB 48GB (2×24GB) DDR5-8400 CL40 for $650, Acer Predator Hera RGB 32GB (2×16GB) DDR5-8000 CL36 for $500, and KLEVV CRAS V RGB 32GB (2×16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 for $440. My priorities are gaming performance, 1% lows, video editing, and keeping the system useful for several years. Is the Acer memory considered reliable compared with G.Skill, Corsair, Kingston, or TeamGroup? Is $650 reasonable for 48GB of DDR5-8400 CL40? Would 48GB at 8400 MT/s be preferable to 32GB at 8000 MT/s, and is either kit noticeably faster in games than 6000 CL30? Would buying the KLEVV kit and trying to overclock it toward 7000–7800 MT/s be worthwhile? Finally, is 48GB a sensible middle ground between 32GB and 64GB, and which of these three kits would you choose?

Be careful with the specific KLEVV model. Some versions marketed as optimized for AMD use older 8Gbit memory chips and may not work properly with newer Intel Core Ultra systems. Verify the exact part number and chip configuration rather than assuming every 6000 CL30 kit is equivalent. Also, I wouldn’t count on overclocking a 6000 kit all the way to 7000–7800; it might work, but the result is not guaranteed.

The 48GB kit is about 50% more capacity for roughly 30% more money than the 32GB 8000 kit, so its pricing is not completely unreasonable if the kit is properly validated. I just wouldn’t buy it without checking compatibility and reviews.

The 8000 and 8400 kits may help on an Intel platform, but the improvement in average FPS and 1% lows will usually be small and very workload-dependent. Stability and motherboard compatibility matter at those speeds, so I wouldn’t pay a huge premium solely for benchmark results. If you want a premium build that will age better, 48GB makes more sense than 32GB, provided the kit is stable on your board.

Some Z890 boards can run 8000+ MT/s very well, particularly with newer CUDIMM designs, but not every CPU and motherboard combination will achieve the advertised settings effortlessly. Check the board’s memory support list before buying.

For gaming alone, the difference between these kits probably won’t justify the price gap. At these memory speeds, capacity is usually more valuable than chasing another 2000 MT/s, especially if you also edit video or want the system to last several years. I’d choose the 48GB kit if the extra capacity fits your budget; otherwise, the 6000 CL30 kit is the sensible value option.

Video editing does not always need more than 32GB, but some games and heavier workloads can benefit from 48GB. It’s more about the applications and games you actually use than the memory speed on the box.

I’d also reconsider the platform if gaming is the main priority. A current AMD X3D system with reasonably priced DDR5 can deliver excellent gaming performance without needing extremely expensive high-speed memory, while an Intel system may make more sense if your editing applications benefit from its CPU features. If you are committed to Z890, I’d favor the 48GB kit for longevity, assuming it is stable, rather than paying $500 for only 32GB.
