I'm currently running a Radeon RX 6700 XT with a Ryzen 9 5900X, 32 GB of RAM, and a 750W Gold-rated Super Flower power supply. I want a noticeable GPU upgrade for 1440p gaming while keeping the total cost below 1,000 CAD. I've found a used RX 6950 XT for 600 CAD, an RX 9070 GRE for 805 CAD after tax, and an RX 9060 XT 16GB for 750 CAD after tax. I mainly play AAA games along with heavily modded Skyrim and Minecraft. I rarely use ray tracing and mostly want better performance in current and upcoming games. Which card offers the best overall choice?

If you choose the 6950 XT, plan around its power draw. A higher-capacity PSU would be preferable, and undervolting or lowering the power limit can reduce heat and power spikes without sacrificing much performance. At 600 CAD it’s the bargain option, but the 9070 GRE is the less risky purchase for future games and warranty coverage.
The RX 9070 GRE is probably the safest overall pick. It offers roughly 20–30% more performance than the RX 9060 XT, includes newer features, and should have better long-term support. The extra cost over the 9060 XT seems worthwhile. If your budget can stretch further, a standard RX 9070 would be even better.
The 9070 GRE sits between the other two in terms of value and performance. It’s only modestly faster than the 6950 XT in some traditional games, but it is considerably faster than the 9060 XT and gives you a newer architecture, better efficiency, and longer feature support. For newer AAA games, that makes it the more balanced choice.
The RX 6950 XT is the strongest value if you only care about traditional rasterized performance. At 600 CAD, it’s still a very capable 1440p card, and the price is much lower than the newer options. However, it uses a lot of power, runs hot, has no newer FSR4 support, and buying used means giving up warranty coverage. Your 750W PSU may also be borderline, especially if the card has an aggressive factory power limit.
I don’t really use ray tracing because of the performance hit. I mostly play AAA games and heavily modded Skyrim or Minecraft, so raw 1440p performance is my main priority.
