I'm upgrading from an older GTX 1070 and currently have an Intel i7-14700, 32GB of DDR4 memory, and a 1440p display. I'm considering an RTX 5070 or RTX 5080, but I'm unsure whether the extra cost of the 5080 is worthwhile for 1440p gaming. What graphics card would you recommend, and are there other options I should consider?

Before buying, check your power supply, case clearance, and the specific card’s power connector requirements. For a longer-lasting 1440p build, a card with 16GB of VRAM or more—such as an RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070-class card—would be preferable to the standard 5070. The CPU is not a limitation here; your budget and target frame rate should decide the upgrade.
The regular RTX 5070 is the more sensible budget option for 1440p, while the 5070 Ti is a good middle ground if you want more headroom.
