Which Linux Distro Works Best with Nvidia Drivers?

Asked By TechExplorer42 On

I'm new to Linux and looking for recommendations on which distribution has native support for Nvidia graphics cards. I've seen Pop OS and Ubuntu mentioned, but I have some concerns about snaps and their performance. It seems like snaps might complicate things. Is there a distro that avoids these issues and still provides a smooth experience with Nvidia? Also, any advice for a newcomer would be appreciated!

If secure boot is a concern for you, make sure to choose a distribution that handles driver signing automatically. Ubuntu, its flavors, and Linux Mint do this, which can save you from potential headaches later on. That way, you should be good to go with your Nvidia drivers without much fuss.

Thanks for that tip! I'll definitely look for a distro that supports secure boot!

If you're looking for a Linux distribution that works great with Nvidia out of the box, I'd suggest checking out EndeavourOS. It's user-friendly and should serve you well. For a more comprehensive list, you can also find various distros optimized for Nvidia on websites like linuxbsdos.com.

Yeah, EndeavourOS has been getting a lot of positive feedback recently!

Linux Mint, especially the Cinnamon version, is pretty easy when it comes to Nvidia driver setup. You can switch from the open-source driver to the proprietary one with just a few clicks, so it's almost a non-issue now. Plus, Ubuntu itself has been stable. If you're thinking of trying out new options, Bazzite is also worth looking into as it comes with Nvidia drivers pre-installed!

I just switched to Nobara after 27 years on Windows, and it's been fantastic! It supports Nvidia drivers right out of the box and comes with a really straightforward driver manager. Plus, it handles snaps as well as flatpaks, so if that's a concern, you're in good shape!
