I had my PC repaired a few months ago, and ever since getting it back, the fans have been running loudly at maximum speed all the time. Before the repair, they adjusted their speed based on the system temperature. What should I check to restore normal fan control?

Check how the fans are connected. If the case fans were moved from motherboard fan headers to a direct SATA or Molex power connection, they will usually run at 100% with no software control. They may also have been plugged into a pump header, which often runs at full speed by default.
The repair may have included a BIOS update or reset, which can restore the fan settings to a default full-speed profile. Enter the BIOS, find the hardware monitor or fan-control section, and check whether the fans are set to Full Speed, Performance, or Manual instead of a temperature-based or Silent curve.
First check your CPU and GPU temperatures while the system is idle. If they are unusually high, the cooler may not have been reinstalled correctly, or the pump might not be working. If temperatures are normal, then the issue is more likely a reset BIOS fan curve, a performance-mode setting, or the fans being connected to different headers.
