I used to assume that a charger with a higher wattage rating would always charge devices faster. It turns out the charger's maximum output is only part of the story—the phone decides how much power to draw, based on the charging protocols and power profiles that both devices support.

For example, my 100W charger charges my Samsung phone at roughly 25W because it doesn't support the required PPS profile. A lower-rated 45W charger with better Samsung-compatible protocol support can be faster in practice. Cable capabilities, charger firmware, and the phone's own thermal limits can also affect the result.

Do you check standards such as USB Power Delivery and PPS before buying chargers, or do you mainly rely on the advertised wattage?
