Why Do Unity Games Stutter on a Powerful PC When Other Games Run Smoothly?

I'm using an RX 9060 XT 16GB, Ryzen 5 5600, and 32GB of RAM, but I get severe stuttering in games such as Tyranny, Pillars of Eternity II, Wartales, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, and Rogue Trader. Lowering the resolution, graphics settings, or frame-rate limit doesn't seem to help. What's confusing is that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Space Marine 2, and Cyberpunk 2077 run smoothly at 1440p. Could there be a Unity-specific compatibility or frame-pacing issue with my hardware or settings?

It may be worth checking your display-sync setup first. FreeSync can sometimes interact poorly with frame limits or inconsistent frame times, so try testing with it disabled and then enabled with different FPS caps. The issue may be frame pacing rather than a lack of GPU performance.

FreeSync is enabled on my 144 Hz display, so I’ll test different combinations of FreeSync and frame caps to see whether that changes the stuttering.

Some Unity games can react badly to unstable clock speeds, voltage settings, or aggressive power-saving behavior. Try returning the GPU to default settings, then compare that with a mild fan-curve or clock/voltage adjustment. Since the stutter is specific to certain games, monitoring GPU clocks, CPU usage, temperatures, and frametimes could help identify whether the problem is clock fluctuation or engine-level frame pacing.

I previously used an RX 7600 without this problem, but the stuttering started after upgrading, so I’ll compare the driver and tuning settings between the two cards.
