Since installing the latest software update, iMessage has been randomly activating and deactivating for several weeks. Messages also appear inconsistently across my iPhone and Mac—some arrive on the Mac but never show up on the phone. Has anyone found a reliable fix?

I’ve seen a similar issue where the Mac repeatedly signs out of iMessage, and eventually the phone stops working with it too. That points to an account or sync problem rather than messages simply being delayed on one device.
It may help to check the exact device models and software versions first, since iMessage syncing problems can depend on the particular update. This is happening with an iPhone 13 and a MacBook Pro running Tahoe 26.5.2.
