Why does my new Wi-Fi only work with some apps and websites?

I moved to a new place yesterday, and my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is having strange problems on the new Wi-Fi network. YouTube videos, messaging, and a few other services work, but many apps and websites—including Twitter, my bank's app, the Verizon app, and some pages in Samsung Internet—report network connectivity errors. Everything works normally when I disconnect from Wi-Fi and use mobile data. I never had this issue on the Wi-Fi at my previous home. The network manager and I checked the connection for restrictions, and changing DNS from automatic to off did not help. What could be causing this selective connectivity problem?

If this is shared or communal Wi-Fi, the network itself may have filtering, access controls, or a configuration problem. The person or company managing the network should check whether certain domains, ports, or services are being blocked. A restriction may exist at the router or provider level even if there are no restrictions configured on your phone.

The network manager and I checked the Wi-Fi settings together, and there don’t appear to be any restrictions set on my device.

DNS could be involved, especially if some sites resolve correctly while others fail. Try manually setting a known public DNS provider, such as Cloudflare at 1.1.1.1 or Google at 8.8.8.8, then reconnect to the network. If that makes no difference, the issue is more likely with the shared router, ISP, filtering, or IPv6 configuration rather than your phone.
