Why does my Vodafone Wi‑Fi keep dropping during games?

My Vodafone home internet keeps showing "no internet," especially while I'm gaming on my PC. Disconnecting and reconnecting the PC to Wi‑Fi usually fixes it immediately. Most of the time, the problem seems limited to the PC, but occasionally the connection drops completely for every device in the house. How can I tell whether this is a PC issue, a router problem, or a Vodafone network problem?

First, figure out whether the Wi‑Fi connection itself is disappearing or whether the router stays connected but loses internet access. When it happens, open Command Prompt and ping your router’s address, then ping an outside address such as 8.8.8.8. If the router responds normally but the outside address fails, the problem is probably the Vodafone cellular connection. If both fail, check the router, Wi‑Fi signal, or your PC’s adapter. Since this is cellular home internet, congestion or weak signal can also cause high latency and dropouts, especially at busy times. Try placing the router somewhere with a stronger signal and compare whether all devices lose access at once or only the PC.

I ran a traceroute and got seven lines. The first had around 21–60 ms, the second was around 266–296 ms with one timeout, the third and fourth had some asterisks, and the remaining lines were roughly 5–10 ms.

Asterisks in traceroute do not automatically mean the connection is broken—some routers simply ignore or deprioritize those diagnostic packets. The very high latency on the second hop is more notable, but test it while the outage is actively happening. Also ping your local router separately; that will show whether the issue starts inside your home or after the connection reaches Vodafone.
