I'm building an AMD system with an MSI MPG B650 Carbon WiFi motherboard and a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. I bought a 64GB G.Skill Trident Z5 DDR5-6400 CL32 kit, but enabling its XMP profile causes failed restarts or general instability. With XMP disabled, the system works normally. Did I choose the wrong memory, or is there a way to run this kit reliably? Should I replace it with an EXPO-rated kit, and what settings should I try first?

Update the motherboard BIOS first, then test again. The CPU’s official memory specifications are much lower than 6400, so the XMP profile isn’t guaranteed. DDR5-6000 is commonly a good target on AM5, but your particular CPU’s memory controller may need 5800 or 5600. If 6000 is unstable, reduce the speed in small steps rather than assuming the memory is defective.
Check the exact memory part number against the board’s qualified memory list, although being listed there still doesn’t guarantee 6400 with every processor. If you’re using four sticks, switch to two if possible, since four DDR5 modules are substantially harder for the memory controller to run at high speeds. You can also reseat the modules and test one stick at a time to rule out a seating or faulty-module issue.
You probably don’t need to sell the kit. DDR5-6400 is an overclock for Ryzen 7000, and not every CPU and motherboard combination can run it reliably. Try loading the XMP profile and then manually changing only the memory speed to DDR5-6000. Also make sure a two-stick kit is installed in the recommended slots, usually A2 and B2.

The same model of CPU can have different memory-overclocking limits, so even an expensive motherboard may not run 6400 consistently. Stability matters more than the extra frequency.
