Why is my GPU usage so low in games?

Hey everyone! I've recently bought an RTX 5070 and paired it with an R5 5600, but I'm facing a frustrating issue where my GPU usage is really low while gaming—typically around 50-60%. I play at 1080p, and even though I've done some research, I can't figure out why it's not performing as expected. For instance, in Witcher 3, I've seen videos of people with the same GPU and CPU getting close to 100% utilization, while I'm barely reaching half of that and getting significantly lower FPS. I've checked everything—temperatures are fine (staying under 65°C), vertical sync is off, and my display settings in Windows are set to 144Hz, so there's no frame rate cap. I've even compared setups on YouTube that are supposed to be similar to mine but can't find a solution. Any suggestions on what I can do to improve this situation?

Could you share the rest of your specs? Knowing your motherboard, RAM, PSU, and storage can help pinpoint the issue. Did you use DDU to cleanly install the latest Nvidia drivers? It's also crucial that you have the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard. Make sure you're using the top PCIe slot for the GPU, too. All these little details can have an impact on performance!

Sure! My motherboard is an MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus, RAM is 32GB (2x16) at 3200MHz, PSU is an MSI MAG 650W, and I have a 1TB NVME SSD. I did use DDU for the drivers, and I made sure to install the latest chipset drivers too. I'm in the top PCIe slot and using dual channel with XMP activated.

Have you checked if the resizable bar is enabled? Also, ensuring your RAM is in dual channel mode can help with performance. It's a small but sometimes impactful tweak!

Yes, I have the resizable bar on and my RAM is indeed set up in dual channel. It seems like everything is in order, but the performance still isn’t where it should be.

Remember, if your GPU doesn't need to run at full power, it won’t. If you have V-Sync enabled or frame limits set to match your monitor’s refresh rate, that could explain the lower usage. My 9070xt runs around 60-70% in games like CS2 at 4K strictly due to frame limiting to my monitor's refresh rate.
