I bought an Acer Nitro N50-610 in 2020 and recently noticed that it performs worse in Fortnite than a system using an i5-8500, GTX 1650, and 16 GB of dual-channel DDR4 memory. My PC actually has an i5-10400F, GTX 1650, and 16 GB of DDR4 running in single-channel mode. In Fortnite at 1080p Performance Mode, I struggle to stay around 100 FPS even after trying various Windows tweaks and disabling CPU parking. Temperatures and general system statistics appear normal, but GPU usage is often surprisingly low. Could single-channel memory explain this difference, or are there other settings or hardware limitations I should check?

Low GPU usage usually means the graphics card is waiting on the CPU, memory, or another limit rather than being the main bottleneck. Besides moving to dual-channel RAM, compare the exact Fortnite resolution, view distance, frame limit, and rendering settings. Remove aggressive Windows tweaks and CPU-parking changes while testing, since they can sometimes make performance less consistent. If dual-channel memory does not help, monitor CPU clock speeds, per-core usage, RAM speed, background programs, and power limits during a match.
Single-channel DDR4 can definitely hurt performance in Fortnite, especially in Performance Mode, because the game becomes more dependent on the CPU and memory subsystem. Adding a matching second stick so the system runs dual-channel should be your first and cheapest test. Make sure the new module has similar capacity, speed, and timings, and install the sticks in the motherboard’s recommended paired slots.
Your corrected CPU is an i5-10400F, not a 14th-generation i5. It is still generally stronger than an i5-8500, but the comparison system has dual-channel memory while yours is running single-channel. That can explain a noticeable difference in minimum FPS and GPU usage. Also check whether your RAM is running at its rated speed, whether XMP is enabled if supported, and whether the monitor cable is connected to the GTX 1650 rather than the motherboard.
