I bought an iPhone 17 in February and it had been working normally until I started traveling. Most of my recent use has involved Google Maps and taking lots of photos. Now the battery percentage is dropping dramatically within minutes—for example, going from 45% to 25%. On another occasion, it fell from 85% to a 20% warning just after I opened the camera, then shut down completely. This happened several times in one day, even with breaks to charge it. Apple's support app reports 96% battery health. Is there anything I can try, or should I have the phone inspected or replaced?

That kind of sudden percentage drop and shutdown isn’t normal, especially on a phone that’s only a few months old. Since it should still be covered by warranty, contact Apple or an authorized service provider and ask them to diagnose it. A replacement may be appropriate if the battery or phone is faulty.
A 96% health reading doesn’t rule out a problem. Battery health is only an estimate, and it won’t necessarily catch a battery that has voltage drops under heavier loads like navigation or the camera. Apple may not replace a battery based on health percentage alone, but repeated shutdowns and inaccurate readings are still worth documenting and having tested under warranty.
I’ve seen batteries lose capacity well before reaching the usual replacement threshold, so the unexpected shutdowns are more concerning than the percentage itself.

Thanks, I’ll contact Apple and have them check it.
