I'm trying to connect an older VHS/DVD combo player to a modern TV. The red, white, and yellow AV cables are plugged into the player and the AV-to-HDMI converter, and an HDMI cable runs from the converter to HDMI 1 on the TV. I've selected the correct HDMI input and tried multiple cables and converters, including different Onn-brand ones. The TV works normally, and the player is supposedly functional, but I'm still getting no picture or sound. Could the converter need a separate power source, or is there something else I should check?

With an HDMI connection, the TV doesn’t use a channel number. Make sure the TV is specifically set to the HDMI input that the converter is plugged into, such as HDMI 1.
Check whether the converter needs USB power. Many AV-to-HDMI adapters won’t work from the signal alone, so connect their USB power cable to a wall charger or another standalone USB power source rather than the TV’s USB port.
I had originally plugged the power into the TV, so I tried using a wall charger instead, but I’m still getting the same result.
