I'm using a Radeon RX 580, and it still runs the games I own smoothly, including the first Spider-Man. I was surprised that it couldn't handle Spider-Man 2, even though the visuals don't seem dramatically different to me. If GTA 6 eventually comes to PC, am I likely to need an extremely expensive graphics card to play it, or could my RX 580 still manage it?

The RX 580 was a decent budget card, but it was already based on older hardware when it launched. GTA games typically get more demanding PC versions, so an RX 580 running GTA 6 smoothly is very unlikely. You’ll have a much better chance with a newer budget or mid-range GPU rather than needing a several-thousand-dollar card.
Spider-Man 2 being difficult to run doesn’t necessarily mean it looks dramatically different. Newer games can require more VRAM, newer features, or better CPU and memory support even when the visual upgrade isn’t obvious. That’s another reason the RX 580 may struggle with future releases.
It probably won’t require an absurdly expensive graphics card. Used cards such as an RTX 3070 Ti can sometimes be found around the $300 range, and newer entry-level or lower-mid-range cards should also be considerably faster than an RX 580 by the time the PC version arrives.
There’s no way to know the requirements until the PC version is officially announced and released. GTA 6 is launching on consoles first, and the PC version could arrive much later. By then, the RX 580 will be roughly a decade old, so I wouldn’t expect it to provide a good experience, especially if the PC release includes upgraded visuals.
