Will Four Mixed DDR4 RAM Sticks Work Reliably in an i5-14600KF Build?

I bought four 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR4 sticks from a trusted seller because the price was good. I assumed they were one matched 32GB kit, but after receiving them I noticed they were actually two separate 2x8GB kits. They appear similar, but I'm not sure whether the kits are identical. I've heard that using four sticks can reduce stability, especially with newer DDR5 systems, so I'm wondering whether this setup should be relatively safe with an Intel i5-14600KF. Will I need to lower the memory speed or disable XMP, or is it worth trying as-is?

Four DIMMs put more strain on the CPU’s memory controller than two, even with DDR4. Try enabling XMP and test the system thoroughly with a memory test or stress test. If it crashes, reduce the RAM speed or loosen the timings. At default JEDEC speed, it should normally work with all four sticks.

The i5-14600KF has a fairly mature DDR4 memory controller, so mixed kits are not automatically a problem. They just aren’t guaranteed to reach their advertised XMP settings because the sticks were not validated together. If they remain stable at the desired settings, there’s no practical reason you can’t keep using them.

I’ve run four DDR4 sticks from separate kits without trouble, but another system may behave differently. Motherboard support matters too, so check its qualified memory list if you run into problems. Four sticks can sometimes require giving up a little memory speed in exchange for the extra capacity.

DDR4 is generally much more forgiving than DDR5, so there’s a good chance it will work fine. Check whether the two kits have matching speed, timings, voltage, and model numbers. If the specifications differ, the system may run everything at the slower kit’s settings.
