I'm finishing a new PC build with a Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB, Ryzen 7 7800X3D, and a single 16GB DDR5-6000 CL30 stick. I can't afford a second stick right now, so I'm wondering whether running in single-channel mode will significantly hurt gaming performance at 1440p. Is it fine as a temporary setup, or should I wait until I can buy a 2×16GB kit?

It will work fine, especially with a 7800X3D and at 1440p, where the graphics card is usually the main limitation. A second stick would improve memory bandwidth and may help frame-time consistency, but the gaming performance difference is generally small in this setup. The bigger concern is running out of memory in newer games while multitasking. Add another compatible stick when you can, or replace it with a matched 2×16GB kit if possible.
As a temporary budget decision, one 16GB DDR5-6000 stick is perfectly usable. Games should run, but you may notice more stuttering or have to close background applications if you get close to the 16GB limit. Buying a second matching stick later should improve things, although mixing a separately purchased module is not always guaranteed to run at the advertised speed.
Your other components are strong enough that this won’t ruin the build. Just enable the memory profile in the motherboard firmware if it is stable, monitor your RAM usage, and plan an upgrade when your budget allows. Ideally, use a matched 2×16GB DDR5-6000 CL30 kit for the most reliable dual-channel operation.

The larger performance gains from dual-channel memory mainly show up in CPU-limited situations. At 1440p with an X3D processor, the loss should usually be limited to low single digits rather than anything dramatic.
