I'm new to PCs and recently bought a prebuilt system with one 16GB RAM module installed. I'd like to add a second 16GB stick to reach 32GB. I found a Kingston KVR56S46BS8-16 and currently have a Samsung M425R2GA3EB0-CWMQOL. Since they appear to have similar specifications but are made by different brands, will they work together, or should I buy an exact matching Samsung module or a complete matched kit?

The safest option is to use two matching modules, either another Samsung stick with the exact same part number or a matched 2-stick kit. Mixing brands can work, but both modules need to support the same DDR5 speed, timings, voltage, and memory profile. If they differ, the system may run both at a lower speed or could be unstable.
You can try the Kingston stick if returning it is easy, but test the computer afterward with a memory diagnostic tool. If the system crashes or fails to boot, remove it and use a matching module instead. Also keep in mind that two sticks may run at the slower module’s settings rather than both staying at the advertised maximum speed.
The Kingston module is also DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM memory, so the physical format and headline speed appear compatible. That doesn’t guarantee perfect operation with the Samsung stick, though. Check the detailed specifications in HWiNFO or CPU-Z, or ask the prebuilt manufacturer for the supported memory configuration. Buying a matched kit is the most reliable route.
I’m not familiar with timings and memory profiles yet, so buying a matched kit may be easier than trying to compare every specification.
So it’s better to avoid mixing them whenever possible? I’m still very new to PC hardware, so I’d rather choose the option that’s least likely to cause problems.
