I was in a bit of a rush building my PC and made a huge mistake by putting thermal paste on the bottom side of my Ryzen 7 CPU before installing it. As soon as I realized what I'd done and pulled it off, I was freaking out. Is there any hope for my CPU and motherboard? What can I do to fix this?

Okay, don't panic! If the thermal paste you used is non-conductive, you might be in luck. Carefully take off the CPU and clean both the CPU and the motherboard terminals with a soft toothbrush and some really high-percentage isopropyl alcohol (like 99%). Just be gentle!
You can wash your CPU with a gentle toothbrush and some high-quality alcohol. As for the motherboard, it's probably not salvageable, but at least you might save the CPU. Let them dry for a few days afterward to be safe!
Don’t worry too much if the paste isn’t conductive! Leave the CPU in the socket, just don’t touch those pins—seriously, they’re super fragile. You'll be okay!
Honestly, you might want to just return the parts and get a prebuilt model instead. This isn't the first time I've heard of something like this. No shame in playing it safe, right?

Wasn’t there a tech video where they found out CPUs can still work fine even with the wrong thermal paste if it's not conductive? Just a thought!
Uhhh... just return your parts if you can. There's no way this is fixable.
How does someone even mess this up? 😂 But seriously, if this is an AM5 CPU, there's a good chance it’s fine after cleaning. The motherboard, though? You might just need to replace that.
Make sure it’s a **really** soft toothbrush though!
