Accidentally Spilled Water on My PC – What Should I Do Now?

I accidentally spilled some water on my PC while turning it off. It was dark, so I wasn't sure how much water went where. The spill went into the top vents, and I noticed a bit of water dripping inside. I think not much water actually got through the vent, but the top of my PC had a fair amount. Everything was turned off except for the outlet extension connected to the power supply. After the spill, I turned off the outlet extension to completely shut down the PC. It seems water hit my GPU first and had some on top of it, with the GPU vents being the only way for water to get in. I checked the motherboard too, and it looks fine, but I haven't powered it on since.

Now I'm looking for advice on what steps I should take next to ensure everything's okay before turning it back on.

Definitely wait a bit longer. I’d suggest opening it up and setting a fan next to it to help with drying for about a day. Unless you want a fried GPU, patience is key here!

First things first, unplug your PC and let it dry for at least a day or two. I suggest opening it up to let any hidden moisture escape. You might consider using some isopropyl alcohol to clean up any residues and speed up the drying process. Just don’t rush to turn it back on until you’re sure it’s completely dry!

Totally agree, giving it extra time is better than risking a short! Make sure to check under the GPU too.

Before you power it back on, clean anything that got wet with isopropyl alcohol. Just be cautious and let it dry thoroughly! That way you minimize any chances of water damage.

Using rice as a drying agent isn’t a solid option, but leaving it open with a fan is definitely the way to go. Unplug everything and make sure you're thorough with drying all components before you think about turning it on.

Yeah, rice isn't very effective. Try to keep things simple and ensure everything's dry completely!
