Advice for Switching from Intel to AMD for the First Time

Hey everyone! I recently made the switch from an Intel Z790 with a 13600K to an AMD B850 with a 9800X3D. Since I'm new to AMD, I'm looking for some advice and tips. Here are a couple of things I've already considered: 1. Should I do a clean install of Windows? I really want to avoid leftover drivers. 2. Is it necessary to update the BIOS, and should I enable PBO and EXPO? 3. I also plan to install the AMD chipset driver. Is there anything else I need to keep in mind? Thanks in advance!

Reinstalling Windows is definitely the way to go with every new motherboard. Better to start fresh!

I think that's unnecessary though.

I switched from an i5-9600k to the 9800X3D without reinstalling Windows, and everything runs fine. Just make sure to update the other things you mentioned!

When moving from Intel to AMD, a clean install is a must. You really want to establish a baseline with your new system before making adjustments. Make sure your memory trains properly as well; it takes time, but that's normal. Trust me, you'll thank yourself later!

I think it's a good idea to do a clean reinstall of Windows whenever you switch motherboards. Absolutely make sure to update the BIOS and enable EXPO. As for PBO, I'd say you might only see a slight performance boost, around 1% at most. It might not be necessary if you're just starting out with your new setup. Good luck!

I usually just go with what others recommend, lol!

I'm not the original poster, but enabling EXPO has caused my system to crash during demanding games. Any fixes for that?

For sure, do a clean install to avoid any issues, and definitely grab the latest chipset drivers. One tip: consider disabling the IGPU in the BIOS if you encounter any problems with games using the wrong GPU. It helped me!

Absolutely, a fresh install is always the best option in these cases.
