Advice Needed for Upgrading My Aging Gaming PC

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some guidance on upgrading my PC setup. I bought this rig back in 2021 after it had been used for about two years, paying around $700 for it. Fast forward to 2025, and I'm noticing significant lag and freezing in games like Fortnite and Valorant. Here's what I currently have:

- GPU: RTX 2060
- CPU: i5-9400f
- RAM: 16GB
- Storage: 256GB SSD (for Windows) + 1TB HDD (for games, with Fortnite on the HDD and Valorant on the SSD)

I'm considering whether I should upgrade my CPU, my GPU, or even think about getting a whole new system. Also, I'm not too sure if I need a new motherboard if I switch out the CPU. Can anyone suggest directions I should take? I play nearly every day, and I need something that will better handle my gaming. My budget isn't huge—around $500 is the most I can spend right now!

Based on your current setup, it sounds like you might need a new platform altogether. The Intel Coffee Lake generation doesn't have many upgrade options left. It might be worth considering a newer motherboard with a compatible CPU if you want to improve performance. You'll likely have to budget for both a new CPU and motherboard, especially if you want a decent upgrade path.

Thanks for the tip! Do you have any recommendations for a good platform that would work well with my RTX 2060? I’m trying to keep costs down.
