Advice Needed on Storage Solutions for My Friend’s PC

Hi everyone! My friend recently had an ADATA XPG GAMMIX S70 Blade 1TB SSD that unfortunately died unexpectedly, resulting in a total data loss, including important work files. She didn't have a backup plan, and recovering the data turned out to be really expensive. Luckily, we managed to get a brand new replacement with full warranty.

Considering her usage pattern, which doesn't involve gaming but rather focuses on graphic design, I believe a single 1TB SSD might not be ideal. I'm suggesting she sells the 1TB SSD and invests in a 256GB or 512GB SSD for the OS and applications, along with two 1TB hard drives for storage—one internal and one for external backups.

Here are my specific questions:
1. Should I recommend a 256GB or a 512GB SSD for her core applications? Would 256GB be sufficient?
2. For the hard drives, I'm thinking about recommending a 1TB internal drive plus a 1TB external drive for backups, which I'll encourage her to maintain regularly. Are there better options, or should I consider a setup of multiple smaller drives for redundancy?

I'd appreciate any suggestions, especially considering the current market prices. I can also help her stretch her budget a bit if it means a better long-term solution.

Definitely push for the 512 GB SSD. With just the OS and apps, she might find 256 GB too limiting in the long run. Regarding the HDDs, your idea of an internal and external drive sounds good. Just remind her that regular backups are essential. If she can afford it, consider smaller drives for redundancy; however, keep it balanced with performance and budget.

I think it’s crucial for her to have a good backup system in place. Using the SSD for her active projects is great because of the speed, but having an HDD to store finished work is a must. I’d recommend going for the 512GB SSD to ensure she doesn’t run out of space quickly. For HDDs, your plan for one internal and one external is solid; just make sure she commits to regular backups.
