Hey everyone! I've been gaming on my laptop with an RTX 4060 and Ryzen 7, but I recently built a new PC using a used RX 580 just to test everything. I'm looking to upgrade that GPU since I need something better for VR with my Oculus Quest 2 and for solid 1440p gaming at high refresh rates. I'm considering a few options:
1. A used RX 7900 XT for around $500 plus tax.
2. A new RX 9070 XT for about $629 plus tax.
3. A used RX 9070 XT for under $600 if I can find one.
I don't mind if it's new or used; I usually go for used to save some cash (except for SSDs and PSUs). I'm looking for recommendations, but I'd rather avoid going for the RTX 5070 with just 12GB of VRAM. I've also heard about FSR4, but it won't be a deal breaker for me since I typically stick with older upscaling methods on my current setup.
Here are my specs:
- Ryzen 7 3700x (planning to upgrade this next)
- RX 580 8GB
- MSI B450 TOMAHAWK
- 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3600MHZ CL16
- 1TB Silicon Power SSD (Gen 3)
- NZXT C850 Gold Core
- Montech X3 Mesh Version
- Corsair H60 AIO Cooler

The RX 9070 XT, whether used or new, seems like a great choice for your needs. It’s powerful and optimized for 1440p high refresh gaming, so you won’t regret it!
The RX 7900 XT is also a great option. It performs well at 1440p, and you'll save some cash compared to the 9070 XT. Just keep in mind that you might miss some of the extra power of the newer card.
I’ve been leaning towards the 7900 XT for that reason! Thanks for the input!
If you can, check out the RX 9070 XTs at Microcenter; they're priced around $580. It's an excellent option for what you're looking to achieve with high refresh rates on 1440p.
Sadly, I don’t have a Microcenter nearby, but that sounds like a fantastic deal!

Yeah, I've heard good things about it for 1440p. Definitely a solid card!
