Am I at risk after an automatic download on my MacBook?

Hey everyone! So, I was just watching a movie on my MacBook Air when I noticed that a file called 'OperaSetup.zip' downloaded automatically without my permission. I've got AdBlock running, and I didn't open the file at all; I just deleted it from both my trash bin and browser. Now I'm pretty stressed because this has never happened to me before. Should I be worried about getting infected or is there anything else I need to do?

It's good to be careful! Make sure your browser is up to date, and review your Mac's security settings just to be safe. These days, it's a lot harder for a site to hijack your browser. Still, being proactive about your updates and settings is smart!

You're in the clear! Since you didn't run the file, it can't harm your computer. Malware typically only activates if you open or install it. Just having that file sitting in your Trash isn't a threat. If you want some extra assurance, you can run a quick malware scan to put your mind at ease.

I wouldn't stress too much. Just make sure to double-check your browser settings to avoid files downloading automatically in the future. You might want to look into the security settings of your browser and confirm if you're set to get alerts before downloads. Also, keep an eye on the sites you use to stream content.
