Am I at risk after clicking a link that redirected me?

Hi everyone! I'm pretty new to all this tech stuff and wanted some advice. I recently tried to download a Starfox ROM from a website and ended up getting redirected to multiple sites, finally landing on an Amazon page for iPhone holders. I'm a bit worried that my computer might be compromised because of this. I'm using Linux and ran Timeshift afterward—did I do the right thing? Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance for any help!

No, what you experienced is usually just an advertisement redirect. It’s possible that malware is involved, but you can’t be sure without further investigation. Personally, I use a tool called AdGuard Home to block ads and redirects by default, and I only whitelist sites I trust.

Just to clarify, downloading a Starfox ROM could potentially expose you to malware, especially if it’s from a sketchy source. However, the redirect you faced isn't directly harmful unless you downloaded something. Since you mentioned you didn’t actually download anything, you should be okay! Just keep an eye out for strange behaviors on your system.
