Am I out of luck with my job search?

I just got blindsided after 9 years at my job, and they said it was purely a business decision—not about my performance. I've primarily worked in front-end development and picked up some back-end skills along the way. Now, I'm realizing I may have stuck around too long. It seems like employers today want experience in a bunch of frameworks like React, Vue, Angular, and AWS, while all I really know are the core languages like JavaScript, PHP, SQL, and various versions of a single CMS. I only have an associate's degree and no portfolio since I've been working nonstop for the past 11 years. I've applied to over 20 jobs but haven't heard back from any. Most positions seem to either require Junior or Senior level experience. Do I even have a shot at finding a new job in this market, or am I just out of luck?

You're actually in a better position than you think. The job market is pretty tough right now, but getting a job isn't just about throwing resumes into the void. Networking is key. Use LinkedIn or local meetups to make connections, that's way more effective than cold applications. Plus, a portfolio isn't always necessary unless you're applying for design-heavy roles—most hiring managers are more interested in your skills and experience.

Honestly, it’s rough for everyone right now. Companies are getting flooded with applications, and a lot of hiring managers are sifting through tons of AI-generated resumes. Try optimizing your resume for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) so you have a better chance of getting noticed. If you have any contacts in the industry, reach out for recommendations. It can really help get your foot in the door.

Dude, I've been in a similar boat. After losing my job, I built some projects using modern frameworks, and it made a big difference. Even if you don’t feel confident in the new frameworks yet, learning them and creating something real is a big win. Update your skills, and don't hesitate to apply to loads of jobs—200 applications sounds daunting, but it works!

Exactly! It's all about showcasing your potential. Build something tangible and put it out there—that can really impress employers.
