I have been contacted by them about a copyrighted image that I have used on my website. They want me to pay a lot of money for it. I cant afford it. Is this a legitimate company or are they just trying to get lucky and get money from me?

Unfortunately, Copytrack are a legitimate company and they can and often do, come after people to claim the money for those who infringe on the rights of people who use images without permission. You will have to deal with this situation unfortunately.
