I have three new hard drives that I used for storage about eight months ago. I put them in their antistatic cases and stored them in a drawer. I'm wondering, is it safe to use them again after this time? Can anything bad happen to the drives after being stored for so long, or is this a regular situation?

To keep your drives in top shape, it's wise to power them on every six months to avoid bitrot. It’s an easy way to keep everything running smoothly!
I think your drives will be just fine. If they’ve been in antistatic cases for eight months, there shouldn't be any degradation. Just plug them in and you should be good to go!
Generally, hard drives are pretty resilient. They usually fail due to temperature issues, mechanical wear, or physical damage, but when they're just sitting in a drawer like yours, that's less of a concern. The only real risk is if they had a manufacturing defect, but that can happen at any time. You should be good to go when you plug them back in!
Totally agree, the chances of them failing just sitting there are low.
You should be fine! I've got both HDDs and SSDs that have sat for a while and they still work fine. I even have two hard drives that survived two years in my shed without any issues!
That's reassuring! Nice to know they can handle it.
The brand and quality of your drives can make a big difference too. For instance, some models like the Western Digital green and blue aren't the best, but their black, red, or gold series are more reliable. If you have enterprise-level drives, they should definitely last longer. So, check your model!
I've left hard drives unused for years, and they worked perfectly when I plugged them back in. Just take care of them while they’re stored, avoid dropping them, and definitely keep magnets away!

Exactly! As long as you stored them properly, there shouldn't be any problems.
