Are My Ryzen 5 9600X Temps Too High With a Peerless Assassin 120 Cooler?

Hey folks! I recently built a PC with some new components, and I'm seeking your insights on thermal performance. Here's what I've used for my build:

- **CPU:** Ryzen 5 9600X
- **Motherboard:** B850M Aorus Elite Wifi 6E Ice
- **Cooler:** Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE (I made sure to remove any plastic cover before installation)
- **Thermal Paste:** Arctic MX-6
- **Case:** Tecware Timber M (comes with 4 non-PWM case fans)
- **GPU:** Not installed yet, it's on the way.

Since it's been a while since my last build, I'm unsure what's considered normal in terms of temperatures. I ran Cinebench in multi-core mode, and my CPU temps peaked at a whopping 95 degrees, which I believe is the thermal limit set by my motherboard. This was done without Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) and Curve Optimizer activated. I also set the TDP to 105W in the BIOS, but Ryzen Master showed my CPU power draw staying below 90W.

Is this temperature range typical with those settings? I attempted some overclocking using a five-minute guide I found, but I hit thermal limits around 5550 MHz when I aimed for 5650 MHz. This makes me think there might be issues with my cooling. Also, I wonder if putting too much thermal paste could contribute to my overheating, as I've experienced overheating on my laptop after repasting with the same Arctic MX-6.

I want to ensure I have solid temps before venturing into undervolting or reinstalling my cooler. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you're hitting the thermal limit, which isn't great for a stock setup. You may have a bad cooler mount or insufficient contact with the CPU. I'd definitely recommend rechecking the cooler's installation. Also, make sure you've removed any protective film from the cold plate of the cooler, as that can mess things up too!

My Ryzen 5 9600X runs much cooler, peaking at about 58 degrees with 88W power draw and even with PBO on, I only hit 85 degrees at 140W. Your temperatures seem too high for a stock configuration. If you haven’t already, try remounting your cooler. You might want to consider using a different thermal interface material like PTM7950 if you've had issues with the Arctic MX-6.

What settings do you have for your curve optimizer? Are you running an offset?
