I'm looking for headsets that can output video directly from my PC but don't include VR functionality. Ideally, I'd like something that resembles VR goggles but focuses on enhancing immersion without needing to engage in VR games or use VR controllers. I'm more comfortable gaming with a keyboard and mouse or a controller. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Keep in mind that many VR headsets have lower resolution, which can make reading text a challenge and may cause eye strain after a while. The Apple Vision Pro has one of the highest resolutions available, but it comes at a hefty price. If you're just looking for a more immersive 2D experience, consider AR glasses like those from XReal; they specialize in offering that type of functionality.
What you're describing sounds similar to video eyewear. Those have been around for quite some time. I had the original Olympus Eye Trek back in the early 2000s, but I found them quite challenging for gaming since you have to keep your head really still. They're more suited for watching movies, but they can be pricier compared to a regular large monitor. I prefer using my 55" QLED screen that's just a meter away!
Most VR headsets can actually work as video output devices without needing to be used for VR. A popular option is the Meta Quest 2 or 3, which are relatively affordable and can be used without the handheld controllers.
