Are There Hidden Costs in Azure Services?

I'm looking to migrate my organization's data to Azure SQL Database, which consists of about 5 million rows. We're also planning to store around 10TB of data in Azure Blob storage, with 5TB on the hot tier. We have roughly 100 employees, and each one will be fetching 10,000 rows, updating 100 rows, and adding 100 new rows daily. Additionally, each employee will upload 100MB and read 500MB of data from Blob storage. I used a cost calculator and it estimated less than $900 per month. Is that accurate, or am I overlooking some hidden charges?

I did a quick check and estimated $450 for my setup, using Azure's pricing tools for the SQL Database and Blob Storage. Make sure you're calculating based on the correct service tier and redundancy options to avoid surprises.

You're probably missing some hidden charges. Just to give you an idea, data egress and private networking can add extra costs. If you're considering Azure Defender for security, that can also get pricey. Logging services aren't free either, so you'll want to keep all those potential expenses in mind.

Make sure you're considering how your data is stored currently. Transitioning from one database type to another can significantly affect your costs. The bulk charges typically come from the database's compute power, and your needs will determine whether you need 50 DTUs or something more.

Using AI like ChatGPT for calculating costs can be risky since it might not give the latest info. There’s a dedicated Azure pricing calculator that's much more reliable for this type of estimate.

Definitely check the Azure pricing calculator. The number of rows you insert and update in an Azure SQL DB don’t directly indicate costs. It’s crucial to pick the right SQL SKU based on things like storage, backup retention, and vCores. Azure storage can be cheap but factors like tier, geographical sync, and bandwidth usage will determine your actual costs.
