I'm planning my first gaming PC and would appreciate a compatibility and value check. The main goal is strong gaming performance with good image quality, rather than always running the absolute highest settings. My current parts are a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE cooler, Asus TUF B850-PLUS WiFi motherboard, 16GB of DDR5-6000 memory, a reused 1TB Samsung 870 QVO SATA SSD, an Asus RTX 5070, a Phanteks XT PRO ULTRA case, and a 750W Corsair RM750e power supply.
The SSD is being reused from an older computer, which is why I'm not choosing an NVMe drive right now. I'm unsure whether the RTX 5070's 12GB of VRAM will be limiting in newer games and whether the Asus Prime model is worth its price compared with other versions. I'm also debating whether 16GB of RAM is sufficient or whether I should buy 32GB now.
I've heard that DDR5 memory usually needs its advertised profile enabled in the BIOS, so I'd like to confirm that the motherboard and other components will support the rated speed. I'd also appreciate confirmation that everything will fit in the case, including the large CPU cooler. Finally, is 750W enough for this system, or would an 850W unit be a better choice for upgrade headroom?

The components are compatible, and the Phanteks case has enough room for the Phantom Spirit cooler and a normal full-size graphics card. Enabling the memory’s EXPO profile in the BIOS is straightforward and should allow the DDR5 kit to run at its advertised speed. I’d avoid planning to add another 2x8GB kit later if possible; buying a matched 2x16GB kit now is preferable because four memory sticks can be harder to run reliably at higher speeds. A less expensive B850 motherboard may provide essentially the same gaming performance, so compare its features and local pricing rather than paying extra for the TUF branding.
The build should work, and 750W is sufficient for the listed parts. You could use an 850W unit if the price is close, especially if you may install a more power-hungry graphics card later. For the graphics card, choose the least expensive reputable model that fits your case; expensive versions usually provide only small improvements in noise or temperatures. Sixteen gigabytes of RAM will run many games, but 32GB is the more comfortable choice for modern gaming and multitasking.
The 7800X3D is a very capable gaming processor, and the Phantom Spirit is more than adequate for it. The exact graphics-card model matters much less than price, cooler quality, dimensions, and warranty. A Gigabyte Gaming OC or similar mainstream 9070 XT model should be fine if it is priced well; paying substantially more for a premium cooler usually isn’t necessary. For the power supply, a good 750W model is enough, while 850W is a reasonable optional upgrade if it costs only a little more and you want extra headroom.
It’s worth comparing the Radeon RX 9070 XT. It generally offers stronger performance than the RTX 5070, includes 16GB of VRAM, and may cost less depending on local pricing. The Nvidia card can still make sense if you specifically want its features or better support for certain software, but the 12GB capacity is less appealing for a new high-end build. Linux gaming systems can reduce background memory use, though Windows remains the safer choice for maximum game and anti-cheat compatibility.
I’ll compare the RX 9070 XT more closely. Linux is interesting, but I’m inexperienced with it and would prefer Windows for compatibility with games and other software.
